A teenager who shot a 17-year-old female five times with paintball pellets in a St Albans street will have to explain his actions at a family group conference.
The victim of the shooting in Innes Rd may be at the conference with the youth and his family, or she may have a representative there.
Christchurch Youth Court Judge John Strettell ordered the meeting today when the 16-year-old did not deny the charge of assault with a weapon.
The female was shot from a passing van near the corner of Cranford St. Four shots hit her back, causing welts, and a fifth hit her face, leaving her with a swollen lip.
The youth, who admitted firing the shots, was remanded on bail to May 29 for the family group conference to take place in the meantime.
He appeared in the Youth Court this afternoon with his parents and his youth advocate, Tony Greig.
He told the court he was about to start a fulltime job in the panel and paint business. When he was asked by Judge Strettell, he said his new employer knew about the offending.
